Franchise cost, unit revenue and closures by brand

Pick a brand. Each page shows what a unit cost to open, what the franchisor says a unit sells, and how many franchised units closed, with the FDD year and page beside every figure.

Brands are listed alphabetically, never ranked. Investment totals differ in what they include (some have land and building inside, most do not); the brand page says which. Informational only, not professional advice. Last reviewed: November 2026.

Method

Each brand's current FDD is downloaded from the Wisconsin DFI franchise registry, the only source used. Item 7 and Item 20 tables are read cell by cell and Item 19 by hand; every Item 20 year is checked to sum (start + opened − terminations − non-renewals − reacquisitions − ceased = end) and a row that does not sum is printed as filed and flagged on the page. Two figures are computed: median unit revenue divided by the Item 7 midpoint, low and high, shown only where the franchisor gives one unit figure; and the three-year closure rate described above. FDDs renew each spring, and pages are refreshed once a year with the FDD year on every row.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these numbers come from?

From the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) each franchisor filed with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions under the FTC Franchise Rule. Item 7 gives the initial investment range, Item 19 the franchisor's optional financial performance representation, and Item 20 the outlet counts. Each figure names the FDD year and page.

Why is unit revenue missing for some brands?

Item 19 is optional. Some franchisors make no representation, and some give figures in a form with no single unit number, such as thirds, quartiles, state tables or site-forecast tools. The page says which, shows the franchisor's own structure, and never estimates a figure.

What is the closure rate?

The Item 20 count of franchised units terminated, not renewed or ceased for other reasons over 2023 to 2025, divided by franchised units at the start of 2023. Units the franchisor reacquired are not counted. It is an outlet count, not a failure or default rate.

Why no ranking or recommendation?

Each brand's figures use the franchisor's own measure, sample and period, and investment totals differ in what they include, so brands are not comparable on one number. Unitnomics computes from the filing and does not advise or refer.
